Sometimes dogs or cats can develop hotspots/sores. These are painful, itchy and seem to pop up over night. The affected skin often appears as a moist, oozing, reddened area that is painful and very itchy to the dog or cat. Hair loss may also be seen. To prevent hotspots, regular grooming and checking the skin is a good way to go. Thoroughly drying your dog or cats skin after bathing or swimming will help tremendously. Sometimes a hotspot can occur after seeing the groomer, please call the groomer they would want to know. Ask your Veterinarian on how to treat your dog or cats hotspot so that it does do not develop further.
